Reading Programs

The Library Media Center supports the goal of the Indian Prairie Community Unit School District that encourages lifelong learning, especially in the promotion of personal reading. To that end, the LMC provides a variety of programs that promote reading for Crone students.

Crone Book Club

Book Club is a voluntary activity that meets during lunch to encourage students to read and share exemplary young adult literature.

Mock Newbery Award Program

Students on Team 6-4 participate in the annual Mock Newbery Program. In September, Jill Brooks, from Anderson's Bookshops, gives book talks on all the titles. Students read as many books as possible on the list, and meet several times to determine their favorites and encourage others to read their favorites. In January, students gather to discuss and vote for the title they felt most deserving of the Newbery Medal.

Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award Program

The Rebecca Caudill Program encourages students to read recently-published works of both fiction and non-fiction and to vote for their favorite title from the list of twenty nominees. Students who read at least three books on the current list are eligible to vote for their favorite title. Sign up in the LMC—your ballot will be delivered to your Reading teacher.
